St.Sebastian’s hospital Arthunkal took its origin in the year 1966 on May 26th, with the help of Rev.Fr.Dennis Arouj. The hospital started functioning in a single room, to provide basic health care to the needy people. By July 26th ,1972 it was raised as a 24 bedded hospital along with laboratory and ECG. During this period the administration post of hospital was carried out by superior of St.Sebastian’s convent. X-ray facility was launched into the hospital by a scrupulous 300 hundred MA German company in the year of 1991.

Initial growth of the hospital was in diminishing pattern. From 1993 onwards, hospital administration was carried by visitation congregation and direction post was executed by the Superior General. Then onwards rapid growth of thehospital was appreciated.In 1994 a new building of hospital came up and medicine department was started and a Physician took charge of it. By the grace of God now our pioneer Dr. Sr. Christina John completed her MBBS and started her service in this hospital.

The succeeding superior generals took deep interest in the hospital and they had great desire in fulfilling in the dreams of our founder Very Rev.Fr. Sebastian LC presentation in the healing ministry and thus encouraged many more sisters to have their studies in medical field,and thus we had Dr.Sr.Gretta Michael who subsequently set about her service to the hospital. Hospital started functioning in a systematic order since 1995. A new building was inaugurated in 1996 consisting hospital chapel, 2 priests’ room and a doctors’ quarters.

They render their help to the poor patients through mobile clinic and other free camps are made available in various fields like Medical, Paediatric, Gynac, Ophthal, and Dental departments in and out of hospital.

They also conduct diabetic camp, blood group identification, diagnosis of tuberculosis, and free treatment is done under government scheme. Regarding paediatric age group, with the help of PHC regular vaccination, TB diagnosis is done free. Nutrition food is supplied for malnourished children and awareness class are conducted for the parents of such children.

From 1996 ANM course were conducted and 6 batches have successfully completed the course, and are working in our hospital and various hospitals. From 2002 onwards, St.Sebastian’s Hospital received the recognition to conduct General Nursing course, thereafter the ANM courses were halted and GNM took over it. Till today every batch consist of 20 students and after completion of the studies, they work in hospital, government sittings and various other hospitals. The service renders by the nursing students to the hospital is of great help, and they remember with gratitude and congratulate the principal, other sisters, Tutors for all the good deeds they are doing for the hospital.

Currently thefollowing departments are functioning in the hospital: -

24 hours causality, General medicine, Paediatrics, Gynecology, Ophthalmology,ENT, Orthopedics, General surgery,Dental, Urology,Cardiology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Digital X-ray, ECG, Pharmacy, well equipped laboratory, Ultra sound scan, Echo, OT complex including 4 operation theaters.
