Jesus Youth is an international Catholic youth movement with a charismatic spirituality. It had its beginnings in Kerala (India), but is now active in nearly 35 countries around the world.
Jesus Youth is an initiative of young people themselves, who, filled with the Holy Spirit try to reach out to other young people. The strength of the movement is its special focus on a life centered on the Lord Jesus Christ: beginning with an experience of God nourished by prayer, the Word of God, the sacraments and fellowship, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. Though not an actual community, Jesus Youth is a network of small but vibrant groups of young people. In their own life situations, they strive to give time to the Lord, responding to the challenges of today’s world in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Arthunkal Basilica is endowed with a lots of vibrant young missionaries of Jesus Youth who actively participate in all spiritual as well as cultural programmes of the parish. Jesus Youth movement has been divided into zones and subzones which wrap up all the JY communities. Arthunkal is a subzone which comes under Cherthala zone. The members of Arthunkal subzone are very active in the Music ministry of Jesus Youth. They lead a sacrament centered life and encourage each other to keep up the spirit, faith and purity in the midst of all temptations. Arthunkal subzone has adopted Jammu and Kashmir area as their mission area. And some of them have opted fulltimership which allows a Jesus Youth to commit himself/herself for the gospel and work in the mission areas.
The prayer group gathers on every Sunday at 11 am and conducts praise and worship, bible reading and study the word of God. They time to time conduct Rosary and Way of the Cross Processions from the parish to other parishes. The way in which they organized and accommodated the participants of cultural exchange programme was well appreciated by the parish community. Jesus Youth continues to spread its fragrance of service at the parish through many other activities.
